Demonstration for the liberation of Georges Ibrahim Abdallah – Sunday, June 19, 2016
June 19 is the International Day of Revolutionary Prisoners. This is another opportunity to express our solidarity with Georges Abdallah, an Arab Communist activist fighting in the national liberation struggle of Palestine and imprisoned in the jails of the French state for over 31 years. Sentenced to life for complicity in acts of resistance claimed by the Lebanese Armed Revolutionary Factions, while his country Lebanon was invaded by Zionist troops, he has been up for release since 1999. Despite two releases ruled by the sentencing court, Georges Abdallah is kept in prison in France, on the US government’s injunction.
Today, the violence and repression of the French state is constantly being reinforced, militarizing even under the cover of the state of emergency: searches at all hours, house arrests, preventive repression, prohibitions of demonstration, arrests, police custody, trials, increases in police violence, immediate and uncontrolled use of the right to kill given to the forces of repression, institutionalized and generalized ethnic profilling. This harassment and repression is directed against the youth of working-class neighborhoods, and against political and trade-union activists. Faced with such a repressive and liberticidal state, it is right and just to revolt. It is on this ground of resistance and struggle that our solidarity legitimately fits into the struggle of Georges Abdallah, who has engaged in a lifetime of struggle against imperialism and for a free Palestine.
Let all those who are on the side of the struggling people, on the side of the Palestinian resistance, who are fighting against capitalism, imperialism, zionism, and colonialism, join us on Sunday, June 19th, to call for the demand for liberation of Georges Ibrahim Abdallah.
Palestine will win! Free Georges Abdallah!
