Maoists regroup at Andhra-Odisha border; combing ops intensified

In what is viewed as a last ditch effort of the Maoists to regain their lost ground, scores of men and women yesterday participated in a huge congregation in a village in Visakhapatnam district close to Odisha border.

The participants owing allegiance to Rayat Kuli Sangha, a frontal organization of the CPI (Maoist), took out a massive rally and condemned the joint operation of Andhra-Odisha police in the cut-off region of Malkangiri where 30 rebels were gunned down on October 24 last.

In view of this, state police have intensified combing operations in the Malkangiri district.

“This is a last ditch effort to garner the support of the people. We are taking several measures and have alerted police posts. Combing operations have been intensified in the border areas. Vehicle frisking and other measures have also been initiated,” Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra said.
