CPI Maoist Cadres Exchange Gunfire With Security Forces In Jharkhand State

Jharkhand State, December 3: A brief exchange of gunfire took place between a group of CPI (Maoist) cadres and security forces in the Palamu forested area of Jharkhand state on Thursday that lead to the seizure of arms and ammunition from the Maoists.

During the searches following the encounter, the CRPF said the security personnel recovered one AK 47 rifle, three magazines, some explosives, one Bolt action rifle, one 9mm pistol, one country made weapon, and two wireless sets among other items from the battle ground.

It was around 9.30 a.m. when the gunfight broke out between the joint troops of 134 Battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Jharkhand Police and over a dozen armed CPI (Maoist) cadres in Salandir forest, police said.

The security personnel were on a combing and search operation when the gun battle started, said sources.

The People’s War led by the CPI (Maoist) is an ongoing conflict in Jharkhand, as well as nine other states in India. The People’s War began in it’s current stage after the CPI (Maoist) formed when a merger occurred between the CPI (ML) (People’s War Group) and the MCCI (Maoist Communist Centre of India) in 2004.
