2 SOG Commandos Injured During Firefight With CPI Maoist Cadres In Odisha State

Khordha District, July 10, 2021: At least two personnel of the Odisha state police Special Operation Group (SOG) were injured during an ongoing encounter with armed cadres of the CPI (Maoist) in the forest area bordering Boudh and Kandhamal districts, director of police Abhay said.

The condition of the two injured police personnel is stable, and they were airlifted to AIIMS in Bhubaneswar, said the DGP who accompanied the injured police in the chopper.

The firefight broke out in the early morning in Uma forest along the Boudh-Kandhamal border area during a combing operation launched by police based on specific information, IG (Operation) Amitav Thakur said.

“During the search operation armed cadres of the CPI (Maoist) opened fire on security forces, in which two SOG commandos sustained bullet injuries,” the DGP said, adding there is also information about injuries to the Maoists during the encounter.

The DGP, who was on a tour to Koraput and Malkangiri districts to review anti-Maoist activities, cut short his programme at Sunabeda in Koraput district and rushed to Padelpada in Boudh.

Abhay said he accompanied the injured police personnel along with a doctor in the chopper to Bhubaneswar.
