CPN Maoist Announces Campaign to Lower the Price of Necessities in Nepal

CPN Maoist led by Netra Bikram Chand has demanded 50 percent concession in daily essentials including rice, lintel and other food items.

A meeting of the CPN Maoist on Monday decided to seek 50 percent concession in food items including rice, lintel, oil, sugar, flour, vegetables, meat and spices. The Maoist party has also demanded reducing the price of petrol by Rs 48 per liter, diesel by Rs 25 per liter and liquid petroleum gas by Rs 378 per cylinder.

Organizing a press conference in the capital, the party announced that it will disrupt the vehicular movement for an hour on October 11 during Vijaya Dashami to create pressure to fulfill its demands.

CPN Maoist Spokesperson Khadga Bahadur Bishwakarma said that public was being duped by creating arbitrary and exorbitant prices and that the party will organize protest programs till October 14 with the participation of public.

The party has also decided to hold its eighth general assembly from February 12 to 18. The opening session will be held in Kathmandu’s Khulamanch while the closing session is scheduled to be held in Rolpa’s Thawang, according to Spokesperson Bishwakarma.
