Naxalite Commander Killed During Gun Battle With Security Forces In Bijapur District

Bijapur District, March 12, 2022: Security forces killed a Naxalite commander in a gun battle on Friday in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district.

A District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawan was injured in the gunfight, an official said.

The battle occurred at around 8.30 am in a forest near Kaika, Mosla and Kader villages when security personnel were on an anti-Naxalite operation, Bijapur Superintendent of Police Kamlochan Kashyap said.

Security personnel belonging to the DRG and the 222nd Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were involved in the operation.

A squad of armed Maoists opened fire on the team, sparking the gunfight. When it was over, the body of a male Naxalite along with a .315 bore rifle, five .303 live cartridges, a tiffin bomb, firecrackers and Maoist material were recovered from the spot, he said.

The slain Maoist was identified as Ritesh Punem, who was active as commander of the Sendra Local Organization Squad of the Maoists, the official said.

DRG jawan Ramlu Hemla sustained a leg injury in an IED blast during the gunfight. His condition is said to be stable.
