Andhra police on high alert, top Maoist leader sighted after two years

Ramakrishna alias RK was sighted in a public meeting along the Andhra-Odisha border.

Security forces in AP and Odisha after are on a high alert after CPI Maoists central committee leader and Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee secretary, Ramakrishna alias RK was sighted after two years at a recent public meeting at Jantri in Malkangiri district of Odisha on Saturday.

It is said that he had been suffering from spondylitis and other ailments for the past seven years and was sent to Dandakaranya region in Chhattisgarh for safety.

According to the sources, top AOB members, including Gajarla Ravi alias Uday , Malkangiri-Koraput-Visakha border division committee secretary , state committee member Saleem, Bengal leaders Sudhir, Anil and Naveen were also present at the meeting attended by around 1,000 to 1,500 villagers of Jodamba, Janbai, Bodapada, Pampermetla, Pansaput and Rollagedda.

One of the officers of anti-naxalite wing told TOI, “We have information about the presence of top leaders at the meeting in cut-off area (Malkangiri). The area is a safe haven for Maoists as its terrain and geographical conditions are difficult to navigate till now.”
Meanwhile, Maoist leader Marri Veera alias Leivu who carried a reward of Rs 1 lakh and was involved in seven encounters between Maoists and security forces, surrendered before the Visakhapatnam rural police on Tuesday.

The New Indian Express reported:

The surrendered Maoist was identified as Marri Veera (25) alias Lievu, while the militia members were D Veranna Padal (22), K Chantibabu (29), P Ramamurthy (26), G Subba Rao (29), P Sumra (18) and L Dasarath (20), all natives of GK Veedhi mandal in the Visakhapatnam district. Superintendent of Police Rahul Dev Sharma said Veera, who lost his parents at the age of 15, was recruited by the senior Maoist leader Gemmili Narayana Rao alias Jambri in 2008.
