The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) joins the broad democratic and peace-loving forces around the world in condemning the US government for its plan to provide Taiwan a weapons package worth $345 million. In pushing its weapons package for Taiwan, the US is heightening military and political tensions with China and increases the dangers of open armed conflict in Asia.

This US plan is a direct slap in the face of the One China Policy which it has long professed recognition of, but which it routinely violates. The package is said to be part of the US “security assistance package” worth $10 billion for Taiwan over the next five years.

The US has been using Taiwan to provoke China in the same way that it used Ukraine to provoke war with Russia. Over the past year, the US government and American politicians have stepped up calls to recognize “Taiwan independence.”

US imperialism has been dragging the Philippines to its conflict with China, establishing more military bases and facilities in the country, in flagrant violation of the country’s sovereignty. The US is also using Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Australia and other “allies” in the region as military strongholds in order to surround China.
