SOG Jawan Injured During Exchange Of Fire With CPI (Maoist) Squad In Nuapada District

Nuapada District, May 20, 2024: A Special Operations Group (SOG) jawan sustained injuries during an exchange of fire with a squad of cadres belonging to the CPI (Maoist) in Odisha’s Nuapada district in the early hours of Monday.

On receiving intelligence inputs about the presence of armed cadres of the Maoist party in the area, police launched a search operation in Nuapada district bordering Chhattisgarh. Sources said at about 3 am, the security personnel spotted a squad of Maoists in Sunabeda forest near Shivanarayanpur within Komna police limits.

Subsequently, an exchange of fire broke out between the Odisha State Police’s SOG personnel and the squad of CPI (Maoist) cadres.

“One SOG jawan sustained bullet injuries and was shifted to Raipur in Chhattisgarh for treatment. His health condition is stated to be stable,” declared ADG (Operations), Dev Datta Singh.

During a search of the site of the skirmish, 10 improvised explosive devices, one loaded pistol and other articles were recovered by police.

A combing operation is continuing in the area, said police sources.
