Police Apprehend CC Member Of CPI (Maoist) In Kamrup Metropolitan District

Kamrup Metropolitan District, January 16, 2024: A central committee member of the CPI (Maoist) has been arrested by a Special Task Force of the Assam state police here, a senior officer announced to the media on Tuesday.

Information from intelligence sources had alerted the STF that a leading CPI (Maoist) cadre, identified as Amiruddin Ahmed, a resident of Satsiya Pokia village under Fakirganj police station in Dhubri district, would be arriving at the Inter-State Bus Terminus here from Barak Valley.

Acting on this intelligence, a Special Task Force of the Assam state police laid a trap and apprehended Amiruddin Ahmed from the Inter-State Bus Terminus in Guwahati city in the district on Monday night, a police spokesperson declared.

“Ahmed alias ‘Sunil’ alias ‘Surjya’ joined the Maoist party in 2009, and is currently officiating as an organizer for the party in Cachar district as well as an observer for Dibrugarh district,” the police spokesperson stated.

Ahmed was camping in various Adivasi inhabited areas of Barak Valley and working on organizational activities for the Maoist party.

“His wife Nirmala Biswas alias ‘Seema’ alias ‘Subhra’ is also a leading cadre of the CPI (Maoist), and is operating from West Bengal,” the police spokesperson pronounced.

A case has been registered at the STF PS and necessary legal action will follow, he added.
