Kalahandi District, June 25, 2023: The CPI (Maoist) has called for a bandh in Kalahandi district following the killing of three of its cadres in an encounter in Odisha state last month. Several posters calling on the people to support and make the bandh a success have been found at Taprenga village and the main road in the district on Sunday.

The KKBN division of the Maoist party has purportedly issued the posters, in which the Maoists have urged the masses to observe the day as a people’s movement.

It is pertinent to mention here that the three Maoists were killed in an encounter with security personnel of the State Intelligence Wing (SIW) in Taperenga-Lubengad forest of Kalahandi district on May 9, 2023. A deputy superintendent of police (DSP)-rank officer also sustained injuries in the skirmish.

The anti-Maoist operation came in the backdrop of the recent Maoist attack on security forces in Chhattisgarh in which 10 District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel were killed on April 26.
