7 CPI (Maoist) Cadres Killed Battling Security Personnel Along Border Of Narayanpur-Bijapur Districts

Raipur District, May 23, 2024: Seven cadres of the CPI (Maoist) were killed in an encounter with security forces in the forest along the border of Narayanpur and Bijapur districts of Chhattisgarh state on Thursday, a police official announced to the press today.

According to a statement issued by the Narayanpur district police, the skirmish began around 11am in the forest along the borders of Bijapur and Narayanpur districts.

The search operation preceding the firefight, involving personnel of the District Reserve Guard from Dantewada, Narayanpur and Bastar districts, Bastar Fighters and Special Task Force — all units of the Chhattisgarh state police — was launched on May 21 based on intelligence inputs about the presence of cadres from the Maoists’ Indravati Area Committee and Platoon No 16 in the forests of Abhujmad, the police official declared.

The operation was being carried out in the Abujhmaad forest at the tri-junction of Narayanpur, Bastar and Dantewada districts.

“A joint team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) of Narayanpur, Bastar and Dantewada and Special Task Force (STF) was out on an anti-Maoist operation on Wednesday night after receiving specific intelligence inputs about the presence of Maoists, including leaders of Platoon number 16 of the CPI (Maoist) and members of the Maoist party’s Indrawati Area Committee in the area. At around 11am on Thursday, an exchange of fire started. After the exchange of fire stopped, the bodies of two Maoists were recovered by Narayanpur district police”, the statement read.

“Two bodies were recovered by Narayanpur district police in the morning, while in the evening, Dantewada district police recovered five bodies. Five weapons were also recovered. The grade of weapons is yet to be ascertained.”, said Dantewada superintendent of police Gaurav Rai. The identities of the Maoists are yet to be ascertained, he added.

A search operation is still underway in the area, the police official concluded.
