CPI (Maoist) Squad Battles Security Forces In Kannur District

Kannur District, November 13, 2023: A gun battle erupted between the Kerala Police’s specialized team Thunderbolt and a squad of cadres belonging to the CPI (Maoist) inside the forest at Uruppumkutty near Irritty here on Monday.

According to reports the police team was patrolling within the forest when the Maoists first opened fire on them. In a counter attack, police also opened fire. The skirmish lasted over 10 minutes and police recovered three guns from the spot. It is also suspected that two Maoists sustained injuries in the encounter.

Kannur Rural SP Hemalatha M confirmed the exchange of fire between Police and the Maoists. However, she has not revealed further details. “More information can be revealed only after collecting exact details from the spot,” the SP said.
