CPI (Maoist) Squad Battles Security Forces Along Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh Border

Raipur District, August 18, 2023: An exchange of fire broke out on Wednesday night between a squad of cadres belonging to the CPI (Maoist) and a joint team of Chhattisgarh police and Gadchiroli police out on an anti-Maoist operation along the border of Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra states.

A police official said that credible intelligence was received on August 15 about the presence of the Sendra Local Organization Squad (LOS) and other formations of the Maoist party north of Bhopalpatnam in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district bordering Maharashtra state. Based on this information, a joint team of 200 C60 Commandos of Gadchiroli police and 70 District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel from Bijapur district were mobilized for a combing operation of the area.

During the combing operation of the area late on Wednesday night, security forces came under heavy fire from the Maoists and a fierce encounter ensued, following which the Maoists escaped into the deep forests. No casualties were reported.
