CPI (Maoist) Forces Carry Out 2 Armed Actions In Bijapur District

Bijapur District, April 18, 2022: After a brief lull, the CPI (Maoist) has increased it’s active presence in the region. Bijapur is among the seven Maoist-affected districts in the conflict zone of Bastar.

Four security personnel were injured following an attack by armed cadres of the CPI (Maoist) on the security base camp at Kutru in Bijapur district, about 400 km south of Raipur, during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.

According to the Bijapur police, the Maoists opened fire at the base camp around midnight and the attack was retaliated by the security forces, following which the Maoists fled into the nearby jungle.

Two injured jawans were referred to Raipur for immediate medical attention while the remaining two rushed to the Bijapur district hospital, the police said. The condition of all the injured were stated to be stable.

It is reported that the Maoists set ablaze seven tractors engaged in the PMGSY road construction project in Manganar village near Barsur police station limits in the district. Locals believe that the CPI (Maoist) East Barsur Committee was responsible for the action.

Villagers stated that around 100 to 150 armed Maoists, including women, surrounded the village with heavy, modern weapons around 8 pm on Sunday and set ablaze the tractors parked in front of the local gram panchayat building. They said that the Maoists had put up a banner warning the village sarpanch, secretary and contractor Santhosh Patara to stop the road works.
