CPI (Maoist) DCM Taken Into Custody By Security Forces Following Skirmish In Kanker District

Kanker District, May 27, 2023: A Divisional Committee Member (DCM) of the CPI (Maoist) suffered a gunshot wound in an encounter with a joint team of the district police and the Border Security Force (BSF) in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district Friday night. A BSF jawan also suffered minor injuries in the clash.

The incident took place around 9 pm Friday when a battalion of BSF jawans and the district police left for an area domination exercise towards Markachuwa village from the BSF camp in Mendara village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Pratappur police station.

During the operation, a skirmish took place between security forces and a squad of CPI (Maoist) cadres near Upanjur village around 10 kilometers north-east of the police station. In the firefight, the Maoist DCM identified as Fagni Pediyami suffered a bullet injury on her thigh. She has been rushed to a hospital where she is being treated for her injuries. Pediyami is around 25-30 years old and joined the Maoist party six years ago.

Pediyami is a Divisional Committee cadre of the Rajnandgaon-Kanker Border Division of the CPI (Maoist). Her husband, identified as Vinod Madanwada, is a Local Operation Squad (LOS) commander. BSF jawan Vikas Singh who suffered a minor splinter injury is said to be out of danger.

The police seized six pressure cooker IEDs, a rifle, seven rifle bullets, 44 bullets, medicines, a torch, a solar plate, wire, seven remote controls, a small battery, pamphlets, Maoist literature, and a Maoist uniform during the gun battle.
