3 CRPF Personnel Killed In Skirmish With CPI (Maoist) Squadron Along Bijapur-Sukma Border

Sukma District, January 30, 2024: Three personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), including two from the specialized Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), were killed on Tuesday in a skirmish with a squad of cadres belonging to the CPI (Maoist) on the border of Sukma and Bijapur districts in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region.

Fifteen additional security personnel were injured in the encounter.

The gun battle took place hours after a new security camp was established in the village of Tekulagudem, which is 616 kilometers from state capital Raipur.

After setting up the new camp, a joint team of the CoBRA, the Special Task Force (STF) and the District Reserve Guard (DRG) was conducting anti-Maoist operations in Jonaguda-Aliguda area when armed cadres of the Maoist party opened fire at the personnel, taking advantage of the forest cover.

The security personnel fired back, following which the Maoists escaped into the dense forest. The firefight lasted over an hour.

The injured security personnel have been airlifted to Raipur for treatment.
