2 Police Personnel Killed During Firefight With CPI (Maoist) Squad In Chatra District

Chatra District, February 7, 2024: Two police personnel were killed while another was seriously injured in a fierce gun battle with a squad of armed cadres of the CPI (Maoist) in Jharkhand’s Chatra district on Wednesday.

The firefight took place at Bairio forest between Sadar and Basisthnagar Jori police station areas in Chatra district, around 200 km from Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi. According to police, a team of security personnel was on patrolling duty when the Maoists ambushed them, leading to a skirmish where the police team fired in retaliation. Two police personnel, identified as Sikandar Singh and Shukun, were struck by bullets fired by the Maoists.

The two police personnel succumbed to their injuries during treatment in Chatra. Another jawan, Akash, who sustained serious bullet injuries during the encounter, was airlifted to Ranchi and admitted to a private hospital there.

Despite the state government’s claims of eradicating Maoism in Jharkhand, the Maoist party continues to maintain an active presence in the state.
