10 DRG Jawans Killed In IED Blast Triggered By CPI (Maoist) Cadres In Dantewada District

Dantewada District, April 26, 2023: Ten jawans from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) were killed after an IED planted by cadres of the CPI (Maoist) exploded in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district, over 350 km from state capital Raipur, on Wednesday afternoon.

The slain security personnel were from the District Reserve Guard (DRG), a state force designed to carry out anti-Maoist operations.

This is the largest attack carried out by the Maoists on the security forces in the state in the last two years, following the attack in 2021 where 22 security personnel were killed in an ambush along the border of Sukma and Bijapur districts.

“The DRG had left their headquarters after they received information of the Maoist presence in Aranpur. An initial probe has revealed that Maoists were tracking their vehicle’s movement,” a Chhattisgarh police officer said.

The timing of the attack is in line with the Maoists’ annual strategy – the CPI (Maoist) conducts it’s Tactical Counter Offensive Campaign (TCOC) between February and June, during which the focus of the Maoist party’s military wing (PLGA) is to inflict casualties on security forces.
