Police Claim 8 CPI (Maoist) Cadres Killed In Exchange Of Fire With Security Forces In Bokaro District

Bokaro District, April 22, 2025: Eight alleged members of the CPI (Maoist), including a person police claim to be a member of its Central Committee, were killed in a firefight with security personnel in Jharkhand’s Bokaro district on Monday morning, Jharkhand Director General of Police Anurag Gupta announced to the press today.

According to the DGP the encounter occurred while the security forces were out on an anti-Maoist operation in the Lugu Pahad area after receiving intelligence inputs about the presence of senior Maoist leaders, including Central Committee members Prayag Manjhi alias Vivek and Sahdev Soren, along with 20-25 armed cadres of the Maoist party.

In his report, the DGP claimed that Prayag Manjhi was confirmed to have been killed in the encounter.

As per the DGP’s statement, the operation, named ‘Dakabeda’, was carried out by CoBRA commandos, CRPF personnel, the Bokaro district police, and the Jharkhand Jaguars.

In his remarks to the press the DGP stated that the joint forces exchanged fire with the Maoists intermittently beginning at 5.30am Monday, adding that in a subsequent search operation, eight bodies, a large cache of arms and items of daily use were recovered. Among the recovered weapons were four INSAS rifles, one SLR, and one revolver.

The DGP alleged in his report that three of the dead were identified as Prayag Manjhi alias Vivek, a Central Committee member of the Maoist party; Arvind Yadav, a Special Area Committee member of the Maoist party; and Saheb Ram Manjhi, a Zonal Committee member of the Maoist party, adding that efforts are being made to identify the remaining five bodies.

In conclusion the DGP said that one of the deceased persons is believed to be another senior leader of the Maoist party named Parvez, who was recently inducted into the party’s Central Committee, though his death is yet to be confirmed.
