Assembly and cultural programme held by Revolutionary Student-Youth Movement and
Revolutionary Workers Movement on 1st May, the International Worker’s Day
Today, 1st of May 2025, on the occasion of International Worker’s Day, the Chittagong metropolitan committee of Revolutionary Student-Youth Movement and Revolutionary Workers Movement successfully held an assembly and cultural programme in the city’s largest worker’s belt, CEPZ.
Preparations started around 2 PM and organization members, supporters and guests started arriving and gathering for the assembly at 3 PM. The cultural troupe of the Revolutionary Student- Youth Movement and Workers Movement initiated the assembly by performing two songs; the “Internationale” and “Song for May Day”. After that, the next part of the assembly started with Mahidul Islam Ibad, the vice-president of the Revolutionary Student-Youth Movement’s Chittagong metropolitan branch conducting, and Rakib Uddin, the president of the Revolutionary Workers Movement’s Chittagong metropolitan branch giving his introductory speech and inviting the guests to join him upstage.
The speakers stated that, We observe May Day every year, but we seldom embrace its true spirit. The liberation of workers, and the establishment of New Democracy-Socialism-Communism should be the ultimate goal of May Day. Even after the Yunus government came to power, the conditions of the working class saw no real improvement—because the bourgeois state continues to serve the interests of bourgeois owners, the American-Chinese-Russian imperialists and Indian expansionists. This exploitative system must be dismantled by the very hands of the workers, wielding their symbolic hammer of resistance. While the general public may not fully grasp the daily struggles of workers, they cannot outright deny them either. The hypocrisy of employers is laid bare when they celebrate May Day with a day off, only to demand that the missed work be compensated through overtime. This relentless exploitation can only be stopped when political power is seized by the working class.
Owners build their fortunes in dollars by buying labor for next to nothing, while workers can’t even afford a modest pair of sandals. The money earned through a worker’s sweat is frivolously spent by employers on token gestures like serving biryani on May Day, as if trying to distract a child with toys.
After the end of the speech-giving period, the cultural troupe performed two more songs; “Naari Muktir Gaan” and “Shramik Kathan” to end the assembly.
A procession clad with red flags of hammer and sickle later covered the streets of CEPZ. After the procession came around CEPZ again, Rakib Uddin, the president of the Revolutionary Workers Movement called an end to the procession and formally greeted and thanked all the supporters who joined the demonstration and the assembly.
