From Ang Bayan: Support Pours In For The Indian People Against Operation Kagaar

Ang Bayan Ngayon | May 6, 2025

Organizations and parties from 13 countries launched forums, demonstrations, postering, and other activities in support of the Indian people against Operation Kagaar in April. These activities are in response to the call for support by the International Committee to Support the People’s War in India (ICSPWI) from April 7-12.

Communist parties, revolutionary organizations, and associations of workers, students, women, and farmers responded to the call. Activities took place in Brazil, Bangladesh, Italy, Colombia, Tunisia, US, Australia, France, Galicia, Russia, Turkey, Afghanistan, and Germany.

The brutal Operation Kagaar, which began in January 2024, is now on its 15th month and has claimed the lives of at least 400 civilians, mostly Adivasi or indigenous people and revolutionaries.

Reports state that 287 were killed in 2024 and 113 so far in 2025. One third (1/3) of the victims are indigenous Adivasi while 40% are women. The armed forces of the reactionary Indian state presented many of the killings as “encounters” with the People’s Liberation Guerilla Army (PLGA) of the Communist Party of India (Maoist).

In 15 months, the military conducted at least 13 major operations in Bastar, Chhattisgarh in central India, using at least 1,000 forces in each operation. Hundreds of human rights violations were recorded during this period. This earned the area the moniker “Bastar Killing Fields.”

Bastar is swamped with 300 military camps, an estimated 50 were built during Operation Kagaar. Within the scope of Abujhmaad, there are nine military camps. Their abundance place a camp at every 2-3 kilometers, each serving as center for counter-insurgency operations in remote areas. Bastar has one state force for every nine civilians.

Amid relentless attacks, the ICSPWI called to extend the campaign of support for the Indian people until March 2026.

The Communist Party of the Philippines and the New People’s Army continue their support against Operation Kagaar. In the first months of Operation Kagaar’s rampage, the Central Committee of the Party declared a month of solidarity with the Indian people from June 20, 2024 to July 20, 2024.

The Party and the people’s army also trust their counterparts, the CPI (Maoist) and PLGA, to continue to thwart the Modi regime’s attacks to defend the Indian people.

The ICSPWI expressed its gratitude to all who participated and joined the week of campaigning in April. It called on all democratic organizations worldwide to continue exposing the Modi regime’s fascist repression through Operation Kagaar.
