Police Claim 1 CPI (Maoist) Cadre Killed In Firefight With Security Personnel In Bastar Region

Raipur District, February 3, 2025: A police official announced to the press on Monday that security personnel found the body of a Maoist who was killed in an encounter that took place on Sunday afternoon in the jungle area on the inter-district border of Narayanpur and Kanker districts in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region.

According to the police official, at around 2.30 pm on Monday security personnel confirmed they found one body, and that search operations were underway.

In his prepared statement, the police official said that a self-loading rifle (SLR) was recovered from the deceased, who was allegedly wearing the uniform of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), the armed wing of the Communist Party of India (Maoist).

As per the police official’s report, security forces comprising jawans of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Border Security Force (BSF), acting on intelligence inputs about the presence of armed cadres from the North Bastar division and Maad division of the Maoist party, began a combing operation. Around 12.30 pm on Sunday, an exchange of fire took place and intermittent firing went on for hours.

The police official concluded his remarks by saying that there is a possibility of some alleged Maoists being killed and few others being injured, and that search operations by security forces are ongoing.
