Nabarangpur District, March 19, 2021: Posters and banners put up by the Menpur-Nuapada division of the CPI (Maoist) have been found pasted at various places in Raigarh area of Nabarangpur district on Wednesday.

According to reports, the posters bore statements criticizing various policies of the government. The Maoists have urged the local people to put up a battle against the administration to fulfill as many as 11 demands, including opposing the felling of trees in the forests and that the price of Kendu leaves be raised to Rs 500 per kg.

In addition to this, the CPI (Maoist) demanded that the price per kg of Mahula flowers be raised to Rs 100, that of Tamarind to Rs 70, that of Mustard to Rs 90, that of Wild Tulasi to Rs 25 and that of Incense Sticks to Rs 500. The Maoists gave the government 15 days to provide a bonus to Kendu leaf pickers in the district.

“As life of Kendu leaf pluckers is always fraught with danger in forests, they should be given insurance cover of Rs 6 lakh in case of death; Rs 4.5. lakh in case of grievous injuries. People should come out to demand their rights.” the Maoist banners read.

The Maoists have also reportedly blocked the Raighar-Hatigaon road by felling trees. They have also dug up roads at various places in the area.
