Balaghat District, May 24, 2022: In an open challenge to police, a squad of Maoists on Sunday set on fire about 350 bags of tendu leaves collected by the tribals at a collection centre in Madhya Pradesh’s Balaghat district.

After setting fire to the bags, the Maoists left a letter at the site warning that anyone who helps police would have to meet a similar fate. The incident was reported from Lanji tehsil of Balaghat district where the Maoists set on fire the tendu leaves stored at Dadekasa, Bilal Kasa tendu leaves collection centre under south forest division general.

The Maoist letter also reads that the leaves are being set on fire since contractors are not fulfilling demands made by the laborers.

They had been demanding to increase their wages. The letter was dropped by the CPI (Maoist), said police.

Police suspect the involvement of eight to ten armed cadres of the CPI (Maoist), including women in this case.

A forest guard was killed by them recently.

Police say that prompt action has dissuaded Maoists from the extortion of money from contractors.
