Statement on the Queen City MLM Collective
On February 2nd, 2017, we are excited to announce the formation of the Queen City Maoist Collective. We believe that as a revolutionary organization, we are guided by the scientific principles of Marxism-Leninism-Maoism.
MLM is a higher stage of Marxism-Leninism. It is necessary as the objective conditions in the US call for application of the mass line, criticism and self-criticism. Marxism-Leninism has become outdated as a revolutionary science, fundamentally, because it has not been held accountable to the masses, the people who are necessary to make revolution. Most importantly, MLMs see that class struggle must continue under socialism and that the end goal of communism is the most important part of our struggle.
Some of our members are former candidate cadre with Workers World Party, and we have fully broken with this organization. We saw that there was no worth in trying to remain in the party and slowly agitate for Maoism, instead we chose to rupture completely.
Legal-leftism and bureaucracy within WWP are among our principled critiques that ultimately contributed to the creation of the Queen City Maoist Collective. Some concerns and critique of WWP, while based in a larger critique of legal-leftism, crossed over into liberal subjectivity and anticommunism at times. Without pandering to liberalism, we acknowledge the objective critique of the reformism within WWP. Ultimately, building with the proletarian masses is more important than scattered movementism.
In the coming period of rising fascism, we must take the historic task of building for communism seriously. This includes the scientific application of unity-struggle-unity as opposed to the “struggle-struggle-struggle” characteristic of WWP.
A revolutionary communist party must be constantly sharpening through both practice and theory. From the masses and to the masses. We must provide leadership for our class in leading revolution in this country and ultimately for worldwide communism. In this time period, there are consistent attacks on our class, particularly on the most oppressed. It is our duty to defend the most marginalized of our class, centering their leadership and needs. Black and brown people are the masses. Undocumented and immigrant people are the masses. Queer and Trans people are the masses. Women and femmes are the masses. Muslim people are the masses.
Make no mistake, these groups were historically oppressed before Donald Trump. And they will be after if we don’t intentionally make revolution, seize state power, suppress all reactionary elements that will come up, and ultimately destroy all class division. The Queen City Maoist Collective has the ultimate goal of linking up with other Maoist collectives to form an MLM communist party in the US, to fight in the immediate against attacks on the oppressed while building a party ready to destroy capitalism-imperialism. The task of leaders is to build more leaders and bring the masses to adopt MLM principles as their own.
